Commitment and motivation

How are yours?

When it comes to achieving a goal, what do you do to keep your eye on the prize? How do you keep yourself moving in the right direction – even through the temptations and challenges?

Whether you’re working towards a health and fitness goal, a career goal, a relationship goal or a savings goal, the chances are slim of you achieving it if you don’t have commitment and motivation to get there.

For me, the first step that I must take is to make sure my goal is aligned to my values and my big picture. Will this goal help improve my life or the life of my family or my community?

Do I feel any resistance towards the goal? If so, what is it and why?

Once I’ve done my “checks and balances”, I then put a plan in place to make it happen.

I break it down into smaller steps and recruit whoever I need to help me achieve it – even if it’s talking a friend into becoming my walking buddy if I want to increase my exercise. I then build a vision of how things will be once I’ve achieved it. Sometimes I write a story about it, sometimes I add it to my vision board or stick visual reminders on the fridge, the bathroom mirror or wardrobe.

I do everything I can to support myself to achieve my goals.

I make them happen.

Are you?
