Who said the selling season was over?

Summer is definitely the “hot” season for buying and selling property. BUT it doesn’t all stop when the weather cools down.

If you find yourself selling your home in the autumn or winter months, there’s some tips that you should follow to make your home look it’s best.

Light – make the most of natural light and schedule your open homes for the time of day that your home is naturally brightest.
Supplement the natural light by turning lights and lamps on to make the home inviting.
Use mirrors to reflect light – and they also help make the space feel bigger.

Warmth – turn the heaters on! Make sure the house is at a comfortable temperature so that potential buyers want to relax and wander through your home.
Place throw rugs on your lounges or bed, place rugs in rooms with floorboards, find creative ways to use fabric to soften and warm the house.
Light some scented candles to add to the ambience and warmth of your home.

Street appeal – take a fresh look at the front of your home – or the entrance to your apartment building. Is it clean, neat and appealing or does it need a freshen up and a bit of life injected into it?
Borrow a gurney and wash it down, add a coat of paint, put some mulch in the garden, buy some pots of coloured flowers, put stuff away, clean the windows. Make people want to come inside because it looks so good outside. It really does make a difference!

Repairs – if something has been bothering you for months, like the dripping tap, broken window latch, fraying carpet – fix it! It will make your home look more loved and cared for and the buyers can focus on what they like rather than what needs fixing.

Outdoor space – if you have an outdoor space that you can make cosy and inviting, do it. Whether it’s setting up a chair on lounge in a little sun trap on a balcony or buying a fire pit from Bunnings and creating a little backyard winter centrepiece, it gives buyers ideas of what they could do with your space.
Make sure leaves are raked, lawns look their best, paths are neat, toys are put away, dead flowers are pruned, and plant some colour if you can.
These tips really will make your home more appealing for the winter buyer.

And if you’re the one buying – make sure you look at natural light, sunny pockets and the TLC that the home has been treated with.
